SANFORD---In an effort to help keep the community clean while fighting poverty throughout Maine, Catholic Charities Maine and St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford will host a free eWaste Day in the St. Thomas School parking lot at 69 North Avenue on Saturday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to noon.
All are encouraged to drop off televisions, computers, printers, VCRs, microwaves, air conditioners, electronic parts, and wiring. At a similar event in Kennebunk last year, over 500 people donated nearly 40,000 pounds of electronics in just four hours.
Unusable items will be recycled while items that are usable will be sold at Threads of Hope, the five thrift stores operated by Catholic Charities Maine, which sell donated home furnishings, clothing, collectibles and other items at affordable prices. The purchases and donations made at the stores help support Catholic Charities Maine programs which served over 50,000 Maine residents in the last year.
For those who can’t make it on June 4, donations are always accepted at the five Threads of Hope stores in Portland (244A St. John Street), Sanford (1364 Main Street), Caribou (14 Old Van Buren Road), Monticello (155 U.S. Route 1), and Presque Isle (11 Davis Street). The Portland and Sanford stores support over 20 statewide Catholic Charities Maine programs, while the three Aroostook County stores support the Catholic Charities Maine Food Bank.
