The “O Antiphons” are antiphons used to introduce the Magnificat canticle at Vespers (Evening Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours) on the last seven days of Advent. Each antiphon is a name of Christ, one of his attributes mentioned in Scripture: December 17: O Sapientia (O Wisdom) December 18: O Adonai (O Lord) December 19: O Radix Jesse (O Root of Jesse) December 20: O Clavis David (O Key of David) December 21: O Oriens (O Dayspring) December 22: O Rex Gentium (O King of the nations) December 23: O Emmanuel (O God is with Us) These seven days mark an intense period of preparation during the final time of Advent, giving us different titles with which to understand the coming Christ. Join us in praying these Great Advent Antiphons during Evening Prayer from December 17th-23rd either at 5:30pm at St. Mary Church (in-person and live steam) or at 6pm at St. Francis Church.
