The Daughters of Isabella was chartered in 1897 in New Haven, Connecticut and has grown to a three layer group – Local Circles, State Circle and an International Circle comprised of Circles in the United States and Canada.
The Local Circle, St. Agnes #713 was chartered on February 18, 1945 and is based in Augusta and is open for membership to all Catholic women over the age of 16. The membership meets for regular meetings 10 times a year (no regular meetings in July and August) usually on the 1st Monday of the month. Special functions are held open to members and guests. For example: Our Anniversary Banquet, the annual Memorial Mass for Deceased Members, Summer Outing, etc.
The group has many categories of involvement to achieve our Motto of Unity, Friendship and Charity. The members receive a quarterly newsletter, we hold fundraisers and make charitable contributions, we support the State Circle charities comprised of Share of Love, an annual scholarship for members, their children and grandchildren, Religious Retirement Fund and the State Regent’s Project currently Catholic Foundation of Maine. These are but a few of our activities.
Our Standing Committees are Welfare, Visitation of the Sick, Membership, and Social. Other committees are set up when the need arises. Dues are $15.00 a year and we meet in St. Monica Hall.
Currently , Beatrice Dostie is the Circle Regent (President) and may be reached at 207-547-3870. Additionally, information can be provided by contacting any of our other members.
